Descriptions:

AP English: AP English mirrors a college level course. It involves extensive reading and writing. Literature assignments include two works to be read over the summer prior to the senior year as well as a play or novel every two or three weeks. Titles can include but are not limited to Crime and Punishment, Beowulf/Grendel, Oedipus Rex, Macbeth or Hamlet, Death of a Salesman. The Scarlet Letter, Heart of Darkness and student choice options. Extensive work will also be completed involving poetry and non-fiction. Writhing will include numerous personal and creative works to develop voice, ton and fluency as well as highly structured analytical essay based on literature.

Physics: In this course, students will learn the properties and laws which govern the physical world around us. Some of the topics covered will be kinematics, mechanics, graphical analysis of motion, vectors, momentum, gravitation, work, power, light, electricity, magnetism, and atomic structure. Lab experience and field work will be correlated with oral discussion, text reading, and current research in the field of physics.

AP Government: Entry level college course which studies the US government system in great detail.

Pre-Calculus: Pre-Calculus is taught using a text that focuses on functions, statistics and trigonometry. The class emphasizes the use of a graphing calculator to help solve all problems. Students work uses mathematics to model real world situations.

Humanities: Psychology is an academic discipline devoted to the study and understanding of human and animal behavior. Seniors taking this course will become aware of factors that influence this behavior.

Chemistry: Students will be introduced to elementary chemistry concepts which will benefit them if they choose to take chemistry in furthering their education. the use of real-world problems will enhance the instruction, and labs will be used to connect the material to physical situations.

Accounting II: Students will build on their knowledge and skills that they developed from Accounting I.   The accounting procedures presented in this course will prepare students for college study of accounting/business, as well as provide a sound background for employment in office jobs.

Anatomy & Physiology: Anatomy is a weighted course designed for juniors and seniors. This course surveys the anatomical systems and their functions.

Advanced Biology: Advanced Biology covers topics in: aquatic ecology, timber management, forest history and how it relates to modern society, fire ecology, genetic engineering and biotechnology, winter ecology, and wildlife biology. The course requires a research paper of 8-10 pages dealing with environmental issues in our modern society. This course is designed around field projects and laboratory exercise.

Spanish II: In continuing your study of Spanish, you will build on what you already know. A Spanish novel will be read.

Calculus: The topics covered are those required to take the AP Calculus test  including limits, derivatives and integrals. Many real world applications and connections are made including related rate problems, velocity/position/accerleration problems, and maximization problems.
