Community members may begin to see military personnel and vehicles on the Darby School campus in the coming weeks as part of a unique partnership between the Darby School District, the Bitterroot National Forest, and the U.S. Military's Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) Program.

This summer, military personnel will be assisting with important infrastructure improvements across the West Fork and Darby-Sula Ranger Districts, including road and bridge maintenance, trail clearing, and historic cabin renovations. These projects will enhance recreational access and visitor experiences throughout the Bitterroot National Forest while providing valuable real-world training opportunities for service members.

Darby School District is proud to support this effort by providing access to our facilities and serving as a "basecamp" for military personnel participating in the project. We are honored to support these service members while helping facilitate improvements that will benefit residents and visitors throughout the Bitterroot Valley.

Thank you to the Bitterroot National Forest, the military personnel involved, and the many local partners working together to make this project a success.

Under the big Montana sky and fueled by grit, determination, and Tiger pride, the Darby Tigers Track & Field teams delivered one of the most memorable Divisional performances in recent school history. The boys team captured 2nd Place overall, while the girls fought their way to an impressive 4th Place finish, with both squads punching an incredible number of tickets to the State Meet in Missoula next weekend.

The headline performances came from the relay teams, where both the boys and girls 4x400 relay teams shattered the Divisional Meet Record. The boys relay team continued rewriting history by also breaking the Darby School Record once again, blazing to a remarkable 3:24.21.The girls’ 4x400 team showed extraordinary determination. After running a 4:20 at Districts, they knew it would take something special just to qualify into the fast heat at State. They answered with a massive breakthrough performance, dropping their time all the way down to 4:11 at Divisionals, a tremendous improvement in just one week.

McCoy continued his dominant season by winning the Long Jump, placing 3rd in the 200, 6th in the 100, and continuing his assault on the record books after previously breaking his own school record in the 200 at Districts with a blazing 22.60. Ben Martin had a huge meet, placing 2nd in the 3200, 2nd in the 800, and 3rd in the 1600, showcasing elite endurance and versatility. Jordan Browning earned 2nd Place in the Triple Jump. Leif Nelson captured the Divisional title in the Discus, doing so with another personal record throw. Gavin Miller ran one of the fastest 400-meter races in Divisional history, breaking the Divisional record himself, but incredibly still finishing 3rd as the top three runners all eclipsed the previous mark. Gavin Anderson placed 2nd in the 300 hurdles and is now within just .25 seconds of the Darby school record.

For the girls: Lily Adair and Brooklyn Rogers dominated the distance races, finishing 1st and 2nd respectively in both the 800 and 1600 meters. Natalie Anderson placed 6th in the Javelin to advance to State. Both Ella Bush and Kiahna Hirmann placed in the 100 hurdles, earning State qualifications. Both the boys and girls 4x100 relay teams advanced to State while setting season personal records. And perhaps the most “Montana” moment of the weekend belonged to Hadley Heiland, who after placing 2nd in the Discus, had to leave the meet early to help catch some “too-free-ranging cattle.” Only in Montana
