The Darby School District is thrilled to announce that Tanner Shavers, a sophomore at Darby High School, has been selected to participate in the United States Naval Academy Summer STEM Program. This nationally recognized program received over 4,000 applications this year, and only 330 students were selected, placing Tanner among the top young STEM scholars in the country.
The Summer STEM Program, held at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, immerses students in hands-on learning in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Over the course of a rigorous week-long session, participants live on campus, work alongside Naval Academy faculty and midshipmen, and engage in real-world problem-solving through cutting-edge projects such as cyber security, robotics, aerodynamics, and environmental engineering.
“Tanner’s selection is a tremendous honor and a testament to the dedication and drive he brings to his academic work,” said Tony Biesiot, Superintendent of Darby School District. “This is just another example of how Darby students are earning world-class opportunities in a small school setting. We are incredibly proud of Tanner and excited to see the impact this experience will have on his future.”
